Engagement Portrait Dancing on Bourbon Street

This couple readily accepted my suggestion to dance in the middle of Bourbon Street during their engagement portrait session. They opted for a morning portrait in the French Quarter. Shooting in the morning has several advantages over a late afternoon / early evening session.

Though not a concern for this particular session, which took place in the Spring, for sessions in the Summer, it will generally be noticeably more comfortable outside in the morning. The other two big advantages are readily evident in this photograph. First, the French Quarter will tend to be much less busy in the morning, which makes it easier to shoot in our various locations without interference. In some cases, we might even be able to get a mostly empty street shot like this!

Secondly, I love the glossy look of wet streets, and most mornings, a cleaning crew comes through and clears debris left over from the night before, including a machine that washes the streets, and if we are lucky with our timing, we can use this to our advantage.

Couples sometimes want a shot with St. Louis Cathedral in the background, and the best spot for this is an elevated area across Decatur Street.

We finished up in Exchange Place, a nice pedestrian alley.
