The beginning of a new marriage is, of course, a serious and solemn occasion, with deep religious meaning to many people. But it's also a very happy and joyful time for the couple and their wedding guests, and acknowledging this with a little levity can be a wonderful thing, making this special moment even more memorable for them and their friends and family in attendance.
While photographing this wedding at the beautiful Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Cathedral in Biloxi, Mississippi, the priest had to stop himself in the middle of the ceremony to describe the huge smiles he was seeing on the faces of the bride and groom kneeling in front of him. He asked the couple to turn around to show the church congregation what he was talking about, and the result was this great shot of a lighthearted moment during their Catholic wedding mass.
I've photographed several Mississippi weddings at this church, and always look forward to it. It's a beautiful and prestigious cathedral that is a pleasure to work at.
